Richard's alarm clock didn't go off this morning. He leapt out of bed and ran through the shower. He pulled on his clothes while he was brushing his teeth, staining his suit jacket in the process. The line at Starbucks stretched around the block. When he finally pulled away from the window, eager to enjoy that first sip of coffee, he nearly spit it out when he discovered they had given him a chai tea, but he was already running late and there was no time to turn back. Traffic was stacked up on the freeway. When he got to the office he had to park in the farthest lot since all the good spots were already taken. He jogged to the door, then cursed when he fumbled through his bag for his security badge and realized it was still in his car. The guard shook his head, and Richard had to jog all the way back to his car and back to the building again. The security guard just gave him a nod as he came through again. Richard hustled to the elevator, only to find that maintenance had put an OUT OF ORDER sign on it. With a sigh, he began climbing the stairs up to the sixth floor. He opened the door into the large open office area and hustled down to his cubicle, dropping his bag and slumping into his chair. Debbie popped her too-cheery head up above the wall that divided them and gave a mock frown at Richard's face. "Looks like somebody has a case of the Mondays," she said, then laughed too loud at her own joke.
